Description
With a length of 47 feet and a weight of approx. 11 tons, Flirt is a relatively large boat despite its slim and sleek shape.
Sailing such a boat is a wonderful experience.
Flirt IV is exceptionally fast and balanced. The sleek lines, fast hull and high rig gives a sailing experience out of the ordinary. Flirt IV is both fast and very seaworthy. At the same time it is easy to handle, thanks to modern solutions that discreetly slide into the whole.
Flirt was once sailed by the famous yacht man John Illingworth who is considered the founder of modern sea sailing back in 1929, and who founded the famous regatta Sydney Hobart race in 1945.
In low winds the high rig catches even small gusts of wind and the boat glides calmly forward in a magical silence.
When it gets windy, the boat accelerates and tilts to a point where the long stern comes in contact with the water. The waterline then becomes longer and contributes to increased speed. Flirt IV can withstand both a lot of wind and high seas, even though it has a narrow hull compared to newer boats.
You can experience sailing past modern and fast sailboats in both a lot of wind as well as hardly any
We have seen many surprised faces when Flirt passes by in fine drift. Flirt attracts a lot of attention at sea, and many greet us with thumbs up and shout enthusiastically how beautiful the boat is.
Flirt has a discreet jib that makes sailing easy, and you can reef the jib from the cockpit. The mainsail has what is called a lazy jack, you simply drop the mainsail into a bag on the boom, straighten it out a bit and tighten the zipper. Getting the sails up and down is quick and easy, the mainsail has carts with ball bearings that helps it glide smoothly up and down the mast. After a long day at sea, its appreciated that its fast and easy to lower the sails.
